The International Dvořák Society

The International Dvořák society is a non-profit organization („obecně prospěšná společnost“), which was founded by the pianist Radoslav Kvapil in 1999. Its main mission is to honor the memory of Antonín Dvořák by performing his works and by commemorating his overall spiritual legacy – Dvořák considered himself a „simple Czech musician“ for whom the commercial and political structures had little lasting value. He was an ardent patriot who felt no need to proclaim his patriotism and a deeply believing Christian who proved by his life that Christian values continue to be valid and inspirational.

One of the major goals of IDS is to bring first class musicians and lecturers not only to large cities, but also to the public in smaller cities and towns.

The VISEGRAD JUBILEE 2011 ended in the fall of 2011. This project reflected the fact that in 2011, we celebrated the birthday anniversaries of three leading composers from three Visegrad countries, Franz Liszt, Jan Cikker, and Antonín Dvořák. Through concerts, lectures, and a piano competition, the organizers wished to commemorate not only the works of these composers, but also their mutual relations.

In cooperation with the city of Kamenice nad Lipou and with the International Vítězslav Novák Society, the International Dvořák Society organized THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL VÍTĚZSLAV NOVÁK PIANO COMPETITION, which took place on May 27-29, 2011, in Kamenice nad Lipou. A very successful program of CONCERTS FOR SENIORS at the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethern in Prague 2, Korunní 60, is currently in its seventh season. The concerts take place at 2:30 p.m. every first Tuesday of the month, from October to June. (For details see CONCERT CYCLES)
